Description

A delicious and savory Monte Cristo sandwich featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham, perfect for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
  • 4 ounces of turkey bacon
  • 4 ounces of chicken ham
  • 4 slices of Swiss cheese
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for frying
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
  • Maple syrup for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the turkey bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain excess grease.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Assemble the sandwiches by layering two slices of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese, turkey bacon, chicken ham, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Top with another slice of bread to complete the sandwich.
  4. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
  5. Place the soaked sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Add more butter as needed while cooking.
  6. Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve with maple syrup on the side.

Notes

  • For a sweeter twist, add a layer of sliced strawberries or bananas inside the sandwich before cooking.
  • Substitute the Swiss cheese with cheddar or pepper jack for a different flavor profile.
