Description
A delicious and savory Monte Cristo sandwich featuring turkey bacon and chicken ham, perfect for a hearty meal.
Ingredients
- 8 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
- 4 ounces of turkey bacon
- 4 ounces of chicken ham
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Butter for frying
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
- Maple syrup for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the turkey bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on a paper towel to drain excess grease.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Assemble the sandwiches by layering two slices of bread with a slice of Swiss cheese, turkey bacon, chicken ham, and another slice of Swiss cheese. Top with another slice of bread to complete the sandwich.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side.
- Place the soaked sandwiches in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted. Add more butter as needed while cooking.
- Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and let them cool for a minute. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve with maple syrup on the side.
Notes
- For a sweeter twist, add a layer of sliced strawberries or bananas inside the sandwich before cooking.
- Substitute the Swiss cheese with cheddar or pepper jack for a different flavor profile.
