Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced flank steak, season with salt and pepper, and stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until browned. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water until smooth. Pour this mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the chopped green onions, sliced red bell pepper, and broccoli florets to the skillet. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  5. Return the cooked flank steak to the skillet and stir to combine everything. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until heated through.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.
