Description
Sloppy Joe Bowls are a delicious and hearty dinner option featuring a savory ground beef mixture served over rice and topped with cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 cups cooked rice
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- While the mixture simmers, prepare the cooked rice according to package instructions if not already done.
- To serve, place a scoop of rice in a bowl, top with the sloppy joe mixture, and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef and use brown rice instead of white rice.
- Add additional toppings such as diced pickles, jalapeños, or sour cream for extra flavor and texture.
