Description

Sloppy Joe Bowls are a delicious and hearty dinner option featuring a savory ground beef mixture served over rice and topped with cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and sauté for about 5 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and let simmer for 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. While the mixture simmers, prepare the cooked rice according to package instructions if not already done.
  6. To serve, place a scoop of rice in a bowl, top with the sloppy joe mixture, and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef and use brown rice instead of white rice.
  • Add additional toppings such as diced pickles, jalapeños, or sour cream for extra flavor and texture.
