Description

A delicious and savory side dish featuring fresh green beans smothered in a flavorful mixture of bacon, onions, and garlic.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté in the bacon drippings for about 5 minutes, or until translucent.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet and pour in the chicken broth. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the green beans are tender.
  6. Stir in the olive oil and apple cider vinegar. Add the cooked bacon back to the skillet and mix well.
  7. Serve warm as a side dish.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use olive oil for sautéing. Add smoked paprika for a smoky flavor.
  • Enhance the dish by adding sliced almonds or walnuts for crunch, or toss in cherry tomatoes for a pop of color and flavor.
