Description
A delicious and savory side dish featuring fresh green beans smothered in a flavorful mixture of bacon, onions, and garlic.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
- 4 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
- Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté in the bacon drippings for about 5 minutes, or until translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet and pour in the chicken broth. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the green beans are tender.
- Stir in the olive oil and apple cider vinegar. Add the cooked bacon back to the skillet and mix well.
- Serve warm as a side dish.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use olive oil for sautéing. Add smoked paprika for a smoky flavor.
- Enhance the dish by adding sliced almonds or walnuts for crunch, or toss in cherry tomatoes for a pop of color and flavor.
