Description
A delicious and healthy twist on traditional pizza using spaghetti squash as the base.
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked spaghetti squash (about 1 medium squash)
- 1 pound ground turkey or beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 jar (24 ounces) marinara sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut the spaghetti squash in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Place cut-side down on a baking sheet and roast for 30-40 minutes, or until tender. Allow to cool slightly, then scrape the flesh with a fork to create spaghetti-like strands.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground turkey or beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute.
- Add the cooked spaghetti squash and marinara sauce to the skillet, mixing well to combine all ingredients.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, and pepperoni slices if using.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil if desired before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the meat with sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, and zucchini.
- Add your favorite pizza toppings like olives, mushrooms, or bell peppers to customize the flavor.
