A delightful Sticky Toffee Apple Cake that combines the sweetness of apples with a rich caramel flavor, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Fold in the diced apples and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, drizzle the caramel sauce over the top of the cake before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, try adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
- You can substitute the apples with pears or a mix of both for a different taste.
- For a festive touch, sprinkle some chopped pecans or walnuts on top of the caramel sauce before serving.
