Description
Sweet and Sour Green Beans is a delicious side dish that combines the crispness of fresh green beans with a tangy and sweet sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped red onion (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the trimmed green beans and cook for about 4-5 minutes until they are bright green and tender-crisp. Drain and immediately transfer the beans to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let them cool for about 5 minutes, then drain again and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the apple cider vinegar, granulated sugar, soy sauce, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt until the sugar is dissolved.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add the cooled green beans and pour the sweet and sour sauce over them. Stir to coat the beans evenly. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beans are heated through and the sauce has thickened slightly.
- If using, stir in the chopped pecans and red onion just before serving for added crunch and flavor.
- Serve warm or at room temperature as a side dish.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- Substitute honey or maple syrup for granulated sugar for a different sweetness profile.
