Description
A delicious and easy recipe for teriyaki meatballs that are perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef or chicken
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (for sauce)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (or honey)
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (for sauce)
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (for sauce)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water (slurry)
- 1/2 cup water (for sauce)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
- Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef (or chicken), breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, ginger, green onions, soy sauce, black pepper, and sesame oil.
- Mix until just combined (don’t overwork the meat).
- Roll into 1-inch balls and place on a tray.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat with a drizzle of oil.
- Cook meatballs until browned on all sides and cooked through (about 10–12 minutes). Remove and set aside.
- In the same pan, add soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, garlic, ginger, and water.
- Bring to a simmer, then add cornstarch slurry to thicken. Stir until glossy.
- Add the cooked meatballs into the sauce, tossing to coat well.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and fresh herbs.
Notes
- Serve over steamed rice, noodles, or with stir-fried vegetables.
- Can also be served as an appetizer with toothpicks.
