Description

Savor the irresistible fusion of golden, herb-infused focaccia and a zesty tuna salad. The focaccia’s crisp exterior and soft, buttery interior—topped with melted herb butter, grated cheese, red onion, cherry tomatoes, and olives—pair perfectly with a vibrant tuna salad bursting with avocado, apple, and a tangy kick. Ideal for a satisfying meal or a delectable snack!

Ingredients

For the dough: 185 ml lukewarm water, 12 g granulated sugar, 7 g instant yeast, 30 ml sunflower oil, 6 g salt, 2 g Italian seasoning, 350 g flour.
For the garnish: 50 g melted herb butter, grated cheese, sliced red onion, halved cherry tomatoes, olives.
For the tuna salad: 75 g mayonnaise, 20 g ketchup, 10 g sambal oelek, 140 g drained tuna, 65 g diced avocado, 50 g chopped cherry tomatoes, 75 g diced apple, 40 g finely chopped red onion.

Instructions

  • Activate the Yeast: In a bowl, combine the lukewarm water, sugar, and yeast. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  • Knead the Dough: Add sunflower oil, Italian seasoning, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • Shape the Dough: Transfer the risen dough to a floured surface, roll it out into a 30 x 25 cm (12 x 10 inch) sheet, and cut into 9 equal pieces.
  • Second Rise: Place the dough pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Prepare the Toppings: Brush the dough with melted herb butter and sprinkle with grated cheese. Gently press the dough with your fingertips, then top with sliced red onion, halved cherry tomatoes, and olives.
  • Bake to Perfection: Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake the focaccia for 12–15 minutes. Once baked, cover with a kitchen towel to keep them soft.
  • Prepare the Tuna Salad: Meanwhile, chop the avocado, cherry tomatoes, apple, and red onion. Drain the tuna well.
  • Mix the Tuna Salad: In a bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, ketchup, and sambal oelek. Fold in the tuna, avocado, cherry tomatoes, apple, and red onion until evenly combined.
  • Assemble & Serve: Slice open the focaccia (add lettuce if desired) and generously fill with the prepared tuna salad. Serve fresh and enjoy the delightful blend of textures and flavors!

Notes

  • Tip: Let the focaccia cool slightly after baking for the best texture when assembling.
  • Customization: Feel free to add extra herbs or a crisp lettuce layer to the tuna salad for an additional burst of freshness.
  • Serving Suggestion: Enjoy with a side salad or a cup of your favorite soup for a complete meal
