Description

Experience the bold, vibrant flavors of Mexico with this simple, authentic Mexican salsa recipe. Made with fresh ingredients, it’s perfect as a dip, topping, or condiment to elevate any dish.

Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe tomatoes
  • 1/3 cup cilantro, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup white onion, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tbsp jalapeño or serrano chili, finely chopped
  • 12 tbsp lime juice (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or 3/4 tsp kosher salt)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tomatoes
    • Slice the tomatoes in half and use a spoon to remove the seeds and watery pulp.
    • Dice the tomatoes into 1 cm (1/3 inch) pieces.
  2. Combine Ingredients
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, cilantro, onion, and chili.
    • Add lime juice and salt, mixing gently to combine.
  3. Rest the Salsa
    • Allow the salsa to rest for 5–20 minutes at room temperature. This step allows the flavors to meld together.
  4. Serve and Enjoy
    • Serve the salsa with tacos, enchiladas, or as a dip with tortilla chips. Enjoy the burst of authentic Mexican flavor.

Notes

  • Tomato Selection: Use ripe, red Roma or plum tomatoes for the best flavor.
  • Spice Level: For milder salsa, reduce the chili or remove the seeds. For more heat, add extra chili or leave the seeds in.
  • Flavor Balance: Taste and adjust the lime juice and salt as needed. For extra brightness, add more lime juice; for balance, a small pinch of sugar works wonders.
  • Make-Ahead Tip: If making in advance, leave out the lime juice and salt until just before serving to avoid excess liquid.
