Description
This easy-to-make Christmas Crack (Cracker Toffee) combines salty crackers, buttery toffee, and rich chocolate for an irresistible holiday treat. Customize it with festive toppings and watch it disappear in minutes!
Ingredients
- Saltine crackers: 40 (1 sleeve)
- Salted butter: 1 cup (2 sticks)
- Light brown sugar: 1 cup
- Pure vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
- Milk chocolate chips: 12-ounce bag
- Optional toppings: Crushed nuts, sprinkles, shredded coconut, or crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Prep the Pan and Oven:
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a 10×15-inch rimmed baking sheet with nonstick aluminum foil or spray regular foil with nonstick spray.
- Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared sheet.
- Make the Toffee:
- Combine butter and brown sugar in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Stir continuously until the mixture boils.
- Let it bubble for 2 minutes while stirring, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Assemble and Bake:
- Pour the hot toffee over the crackers, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 6 minutes until the toffee bubbles and spreads over the crackers.
- Add the Chocolate Layer:
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee.
- Let sit for 1-2 minutes, then spread the melted chocolate evenly with an offset spatula.
- Customize and Cool:
- Add your choice of toppings while the chocolate is still soft.
- Allow the treat to cool completely at room temperature, or speed up cooling in the fridge or freezer.
- Break into Pieces:
- Once set, peel the foil off and break the Christmas Crack into bite-sized pieces. Enjoy!
