Description

Tres Leches Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful twist on traditional cinnamon rolls, soaked in a rich tres leches sauce for a moist and flavorful treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (for filling)
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (for tres leches sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for tres leches sauce)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for topping)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the softened butter, whole milk, egg, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  6. Brush the melted butter over the dough and sprinkle the brown sugar and 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon evenly on top.
  7. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While the rolls are baking, prepare the tres leches sauce by whisking together the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, 1/2 cup whole milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract in a bowl.
  10. Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and immediately pour the tres leches sauce evenly over the hot rolls. Allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes.
  11. For the topping, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  12. Serve the cinnamon rolls topped with whipped cream and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a chocolate twist, add chocolate chips to the filling before rolling up the dough.
  • You can substitute almond milk or oat milk for a dairy-free version of the tres leches sauce.
