Description
Turtle Caramel Cake is a decadent dessert featuring layers of rich chocolate cake, caramel sauce, pecans, and chocolate chips, perfect for any special occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the top, then sprinkle half of the chopped pecans and half of the chocolate chips.
- Top with the second layer of cake and repeat the process with the remaining caramel sauce, pecans, and chocolate chips.
- Slice and serve.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the batter.
- You can also substitute walnuts for pecans if desired.
- For a fun twist, layer in some whipped cream between the cake layers for added creaminess.
