A delicious and easy-to-make Vanilla Bean French Toast Bake that is perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
- 8 cups of day-old bread, cubed (such as brioche or challah)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, vanilla bean seeds, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture, gently folding to ensure all pieces are coated. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.
- Pour the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For added flavor, mix in fresh berries or chocolate chips before baking.
- To prepare ahead, assemble the dish the night before, cover it, and refrigerate. Bake it in the morning for a quick and delicious breakfast.
