Description
A simple and delicious Vietnamese stir-fried cabbage dish with tomatoes, perfect as a side or main dish.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium tomato, diced
- 1 small head of green cabbage, shredded (about 4 cups)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro (for garnish)
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 2 minutes until it becomes translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the diced tomato and cook for 2 minutes, allowing it to soften.
- Gradually add the shredded cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to combine.
- Pour in the soy sauce, fish sauce (if using), and sugar. Stir-fry for about 5 minutes until the cabbage is tender but still crisp.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Remove from heat and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes during cooking.
- You can also substitute the cabbage with bok choy or kale for a different flavor and texture.
