Description

A simple and delicious Vietnamese stir-fried cabbage dish with tomatoes, perfect as a side or main dish.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium tomato, diced
  • 1 small head of green cabbage, shredded (about 4 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced onion and sauté for about 2 minutes until it becomes translucent.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the diced tomato and cook for 2 minutes, allowing it to soften.
  5. Gradually add the shredded cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to combine.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce, fish sauce (if using), and sugar. Stir-fry for about 5 minutes until the cabbage is tender but still crisp.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped cilantro before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes during cooking.
  • You can also substitute the cabbage with bok choy or kale for a different flavor and texture.
