Description

A delicious and easy-to-make dessert featuring ripe bananas baked in a sweet cobbler batter, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Spread the sliced bananas evenly over the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Pour the batter over the bananas, spreading it evenly.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
  8. Carefully pour the hot water over the entire dish. Do not stir; the water will create a sauce as it bakes.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  10. Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving. This dessert is best served warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For added flavor, mix in a handful of chopped nuts or chocolate chips into the batter before baking.
  • Try substituting the bananas with peaches or berries for a different fruit cobbler experience.
