Description
Delicious homemade cinnamon rolls that are soft, fluffy, and melt in your mouth, topped with a sweet icing.
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 ¼ cups flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl to make the icing.
- Once the rolls are baked, let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling the icing over the top.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- You can also substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier twist.
