Description

Delicious homemade cinnamon rolls that are soft, fluffy, and melt in your mouth, topped with a sweet icing.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 ¼ cups flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk, melted butter, and egg.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
  7. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
  8. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log.
  9. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  10. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  12. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl to make the icing.
  14. Once the rolls are baked, let them cool for a few minutes before drizzling the icing over the top.
  15. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • You can also substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a healthier twist.
