Description

A quick and delicious Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet recipe perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 700 g green cabbage, chopped
  • 1 large carrot, thinly sliced
  • 400 g canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 120 ml beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes, optional
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add the olive oil and diced onion. Cook for 3–4 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in paprika, oregano, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Add the chopped cabbage and sliced carrot. Toss everything together and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften.
  5. Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have come together.
  7. Taste and add more salt, pepper, or Worcestershire sauce if desired.
  8. Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Don’t overcook the cabbage if you prefer some texture. Cook it just until tender-crisp for the best flavor and bite.
  • Optional: Add ½ tsp smoked paprika for a deeper flavor.
  • Stir in cooked rice for a heartier meal.
  • Add sliced bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • Top with shredded cheddar cheese and let it melt.
  • Use ground turkey or pork instead of beef.
