Ingredients
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tbsp butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp water
- 8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1½ cups whipped topping
- 1 prepared yellow or spice cake, cut into cubes
- ½ cup caramel sauce
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and water.
- Cook for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender but still slightly firm. Let cool completely.
- Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped topping.
- In a large trifle dish or individual glasses, layer cake cubes, cheesecake cream, cooked apples, and caramel sauce.
- Repeat the layers until the dish is full, finishing with the cream, caramel drizzle, and chopped nuts.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving to let the flavors meld.
- Serve chilled with an extra drizzle of caramel sauce on top.
Notes
- A spice cake or cinnamon cake makes this trifle especially cozy and pairs perfectly with the caramel apples.
