Description

Cheesy Cabbage Beef Stacks are a savory dish made with layers of cabbage, ground beef, and a blend of cheeses, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Carefully remove the outer cabbage leaves. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 2–3 minutes, until softened. Drain and pat dry.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and onion. Cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking up the beef, until browned.
  4. Add the garlic, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for another minute.
  5. Stir in the tomato sauce and beef broth. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, until slightly thickened.
  6. Place a cabbage leaf in the bottom of the baking dish. Add a layer of the beef mixture, followed by a sprinkle of mozzarella and cheddar.
  7. Repeat the layers with cabbage, beef, and cheese until the ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
  8. Sprinkle Parmesan over the top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
  11. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing into stacks.

Notes

  • Add a little marinara sauce between the layers for an even richer, lasagna-style version.
