Description
Cheesy Cabbage Beef Stacks are a savory dish made with layers of cabbage, ground beef, and a blend of cheeses, baked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 large head green cabbage
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Carefully remove the outer cabbage leaves. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the cabbage leaves for 2–3 minutes, until softened. Drain and pat dry.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and onion. Cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking up the beef, until browned.
- Add the garlic, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for another minute.
- Stir in the tomato sauce and beef broth. Simmer for 3–4 minutes, until slightly thickened.
- Place a cabbage leaf in the bottom of the baking dish. Add a layer of the beef mixture, followed by a sprinkle of mozzarella and cheddar.
- Repeat the layers with cabbage, beef, and cheese until the ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
- Sprinkle Parmesan over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and lightly golden.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing into stacks.
Notes
- Add a little marinara sauce between the layers for an even richer, lasagna-style version.
