Description

Cheesy Cabbage Gratin is a comforting dish made with tender cabbage, creamy cheese, and a crispy breadcrumb topping, perfect for a cozy meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 small head of green cabbage, chopped (about 4 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the chopped cabbage, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook until the cabbage is wilted and tender, about 10 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine the heavy cream, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir until well blended.
  5. Add the cooked cabbage mixture to the cheese mixture and stir until evenly coated.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a smoky flavor, add 1/2 cup of cooked bacon or ham to the cabbage mixture.
  • Swap out the cheddar for Gruyère cheese for a more gourmet taste.
