Description

Delicious and sweet cinnamon rolls inspired by the Cookie Monster, featuring chocolate chips and crushed Oreo cookies.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed to 110°F
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup crushed Oreo cookies
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warmed milk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Spread the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the mini chocolate chips and crushed Oreo cookies on top.
  8. Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by whisking together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. Once the rolls are done, drizzle the icing over the warm cinnamon rolls and serve.

Notes

  • For a cream cheese icing, substitute the powdered sugar and milk with 4 oz of softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and 2 tablespoons milk.
  • Add nuts or dried fruit to the filling for extra texture and flavor.
