Description

A delightful and creamy Russian dish made with mushrooms, heavy cream, and Gruyère cheese, perfect for serving as an appetizer or a main dish.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 4 slices of baguette or toasted bread (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until the mushrooms are browned and have released their moisture, about 7-8 minutes.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Transfer the mushroom mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese evenly over the top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
  8. Serve warm, either on its own or with slices of toasted baguette.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, you can add spinach or artichokes to the mushroom mixture for added flavor and nutrition.
  • Try substituting the Gruyère cheese with mozzarella or cheddar for a different taste profile.
