Description
A delightful and creamy Russian dish made with mushrooms, heavy cream, and Gruyère cheese, perfect for serving as an appetizer or a main dish.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces fresh mushrooms, sliced (such as cremini or button)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
- 4 slices of baguette or toasted bread (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until the mushrooms are browned and have released their moisture, about 7-8 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Transfer the mushroom mixture to a baking dish and sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
- Serve warm, either on its own or with slices of toasted baguette.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, you can add spinach or artichokes to the mushroom mixture for added flavor and nutrition.
- Try substituting the Gruyère cheese with mozzarella or cheddar for a different taste profile.
