Description

Crispy Fried Cabbage and Potatoes is a delicious and hearty dish that combines tender cabbage and crispy potatoes, seasoned to perfection.

Ingredients

  • lbs (680 g) Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, diced into ½-inch cubes
  • ½ medium green cabbage (about 1½ lbs/680 g), chopped
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the diced potatoes in a single layer and cook for 12–15 minutes, stirring only occasionally, until the potatoes are golden brown and nearly tender. Transfer the potatoes to a plate.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium, add the remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil and the butter to the skillet. Add the onion and cook for 4–5 minutes, until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Add the chopped cabbage and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender with lightly caramelized edges.
  5. Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to coat the vegetables evenly.
  6. Return the crispy potatoes to the skillet, toss everything together and cook for 3–5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend and the potatoes to crisp up again.
  7. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh parsley, sliced green onions, and grated Parmesan cheese (optional). Serve with lemon wedges if desired.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes.
  • This dish can be served as a side or a main course.
