Description

A delicious deep-dish pie filled with ground beef, Italian sausage, pepperoni, and a blend of cheeses, perfect for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ lb Italian sausage, casing removed
  • 5 oz pepperoni, sliced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ cups marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a 9-inch deep-dish pie pan.
  2. Cook the meats: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Cook for 7–9 minutes, breaking the meat apart, until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. Add the vegetables: Add onion and bell pepper. Cook for 4–5 minutes, until softened. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  4. Make the filling: Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  5. Prepare the crust: Fit one pie crust into the bottom and sides of the deep-dish pie pan, leaving the edges slightly overhanging.
  6. Layer: Spread half of the meat mixture over the crust. Add half of the pepperoni, mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan. Repeat with the remaining meat, pepperoni, and cheeses.
  7. Top the pie: Place the second pie crust over the filling. Pinch the edges to seal and trim any excess dough. Cut a few small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
  8. Brush: Whisk the egg with water and brush it over the top crust.
  9. Bake: Bake for 35–45 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  10. Rest: Let the pie cool for 10–15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add crushed red pepper flakes to the meat mixture.
