Description

A deliciously gooey apple butter cake that combines a rich cake base with a creamy apple butter filling, perfect for dessert lovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup apple butter
  • 3½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, egg, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir until a thick dough forms and press it into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. In another large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs and beat until combined.
  4. Mix in the melted butter, apple butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Beat until creamy and evenly blended.
  5. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until the filling is smooth and thick.
  6. Pour the apple butter filling over the cake base and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake for 40–50 minutes, checking around the 35-minute mark. The edges should be set and lightly golden, while the center remains slightly soft.
  8. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for at least 45–60 minutes. Refrigerate for 1–2 hours before cutting for cleaner slices.
  9. Cut into squares and serve at room temperature or slightly chilled, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use homemade apple butter.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easier mixing.
  • Cover with foil if the top browns too quickly during baking.
