Description

Hash Brown Ground Beef Casserole is a comforting dish that combines ground beef, creamy soup, and crispy hash browns, topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients

  • 450 g ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (300 g) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 120 g sour cream
  • 120 mL milk
  • 150 g frozen mixed vegetables, thawed
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 900 g frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
  • 200 g shredded cheddar cheese
  • 30 g grated Parmesan cheese
  • 15 g butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat: Heat oven to 190°C. Lightly grease a 23 × 33 cm baking dish.
  2. Cook the beef: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and onion. Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking up the beef, until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Season: Add garlic, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Make the creamy mixture: In a large bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and milk. Stir until smooth.
  5. Combine: Add the cooked beef, mixed vegetables, and 100 g cheddar to the soup mixture. Stir well.
  6. Assemble: Spread the beef mixture evenly in the baking dish. Arrange the thawed hash browns over the top.
  7. Add cheese: Brush the hash browns with melted butter. Sprinkle with the remaining 100 g cheddar and Parmesan.
  8. Bake: Cover loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20–25 minutes, until the hash browns are golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  9. Rest: Let the casserole stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add some diced jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • Feel free to substitute the mixed vegetables with your favorite veggies.
  • This casserole can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
