Description
A flaky and flavorful baked cod recipe seasoned with Old Bay and garlic butter.
Ingredients
- 4 cod fillets (about 6 oz each)
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
- Extra chopped parsley (for serving)
- Additional melted garlic butter (optional, for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Lightly grease a baking dish with olive oil or nonstick cooking spray.
- Pat the cod fillets dry with paper towels. Arrange them in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, black pepper, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Stir until well mixed.
- Brush the garlic butter mixture generously over each cod fillet, making sure the tops and sides are coated.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 12–15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets. The cod is ready when it turns opaque, flakes easily with a fork, and reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
- Remove the cod from the oven and spoon some of the buttery sauce from the baking dish over the fillets.
- Sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
Notes
- Pat the cod dry before seasoning to help the butter sauce stick.
- Use fresh or fully thawed cod for more even cooking.
- Avoid overbaking, as cod can become dry quickly.
- Adjust the Old Bay seasoning to your taste since it already contains salt.
- For extra richness, add another tablespoon of butter to the sauce before baking.
