Description
A cozy and indulgent dessert that combines the rich flavors of chocolate cake with a gooey fudge layer, perfect for serving warm with ice cream.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cups hot water
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- Vanilla ice cream for serving
- Chocolate syrup for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking dish or an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Stir until well mixed.
- Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and hot water until the sugar is dissolved. Slowly pour this mixture over the batter in the baking dish. Do not stir.
- If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts on top of the batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is set and a toothpick inserted into the cake portion comes out clean. The fudge will remain gooey underneath.
- Allow the cake to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a teaspoon of instant coffee granules to the dry ingredients.
- Experiment with different ice cream flavors, such as mint chocolate chip or caramel, for a unique twist on the classic sundae cake.
