Description

A deliciously moist pecan cake topped with creamy cream cheese frosting and a rich caramel praline sauce, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon (3 g) baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon (3 g) salt
  • 1 cup (225 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk
  • 1 cup (110 g) finely chopped pecans
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups (360 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 12 tablespoons (15–30 ml) heavy cream or milk
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon (12 g) salt
  • 1 cup (110 g) toasted pecans, roughly chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9 × 13-inch (23 × 33 cm) baking pan.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
  4. Add the dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, mixing just until combined.
  5. Fold in the chopped pecans.
  6. Pour into the pan and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Cool completely.
  8. Make the Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla. Add cream or milk until you reach a thick but spreadable consistency. Spread over the cooled cake.
  9. Make the Caramel Praline Sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and heavy cream. Stir continuously and bring to a gentle boil. Cook for 2–3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt. Let cool slightly, then stir in some of the toasted pecans.

Notes

  • Ensure the butter is softened for both the cake and frosting for better mixing.
  • For a richer flavor, use dark brown sugar in the caramel sauce.
  • Store any leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
