Description

Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders are a delicious twist on the classic cheesesteak, combining the flavors of sloppy joes with cheesy goodness, all served in slider form for easy sharing.

Ingredients

  • 450 g ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 225 g button mushrooms, thinly sliced — optional
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 360 ml water
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 225 g shredded cheddar cheese
  • 240 ml milk
  • 115 g sour cream
  • 2 tsp nutritional yeast, optional
  • ¼ tsp mustard powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 8 small slider buns
  • 30 g butter, melted
  • Extra shredded cheddar, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and break it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until partially browned.
  2. Add the diced onion and green bell pepper. Cook for 3–4 minutes, until the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Add Worcestershire sauce, water, ketchup, cornstarch, salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder. Stir well.
  4. Let the mixture simmer until the liquid has reduced by about half and the beef mixture starts becoming thick. Add the mushrooms and cook for another 3–4 minutes, until the sauce is thick and glossy.
  5. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the milk, sour cream, cheddar, nutritional yeast, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Stir continuously until the cheese has melted and the sauce is smooth.
  6. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Slice the slider buns in half horizontally without separating individual rolls if using a connected slider pack.
  7. Place the bottom halves in a baking dish. Spoon the beef mixture evenly over the buns, then generously pour the cheese sauce over the beef.
  8. Place the top halves of the buns over the filling. Brush the tops with melted butter.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until the buns are toasted and the filling is hot and cheesy.
  10. Let cool for a couple of minutes, then separate the sliders and serve hot.

Notes

  • For an extra-cheesy version, add sliced provolone or mozzarella before putting on the top buns.
  • Don’t skip the Worcestershire sauce—it gives the beef that deep savory flavor.
  • For authentic Philly-style flavor, sauté the onions and peppers until nicely softened.
  • If using regular dairy ingredients, you can simply use normal cheddar, milk, sour cream, and butter instead of dairy-free versions.
