Description
A quick and easy dessert that combines the flavors of strawberry pie and cheesecake in a delightful dump cake.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (21 ounces each) strawberry pie filling
- 1 box (15.25 ounces) vanilla or white cake mix
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (optional)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick cooking spray.
- Spread both cans of strawberry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. If using fresh strawberries, scatter the slices over the filling.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the strawberry filling. Spread gently in small patches, leaving some strawberry filling visible between the dollops.
- Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the strawberry and cream cheese layers. Do not prepare the cake mix according to the box instructions, and do not stir the layers together.
- Slowly drizzle the melted butter over the dry cake mix, distributing it as evenly as possible. Try to moisten as much of the surface as you can. If some dry patches remain, add a little extra melted butter to those areas.
- Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the strawberry filling is bubbling around the edges. If the top browns too quickly, loosely cover the dish with foil for the remaining baking time.
- Let the dump cake rest for 15–20 minutes before serving. This allows the filling to settle slightly while keeping the dessert warm and gooey. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use fresh strawberries in addition to the pie filling.
- Dust with powdered sugar just before serving for an elegant touch.
