Description
Three Milk Cake, also known as Tres Leches Cake, is a moist and delicious dessert soaked in a mixture of three types of milk.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 5 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Fresh fruit for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, mix the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, and whole milk in a bowl.
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Poke holes all over the top of the cake with a fork or skewer.
- Slowly pour the milk mixture over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in. Let the cake cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the top of the cake. Garnish with fresh fruit if desired.
Notes
- For a chocolate twist, add 1/2 cup of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients.
- Try adding a splash of rum or coconut extract to the milk mixture for added flavor.
