Description
A delicious and indulgent dessert that combines the flavors of cinnamon rolls and apple pie in a warm, gooey lasagna.
Ingredients
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls, with icing
- 1 cup cream cheese frosting
- ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional
- ½ cup caramel sauce, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Lightly grease a 23 × 33 cm (9 × 13-inch) baking dish.
- Prepare the apples: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples begin to soften.
- Prepare the cinnamon rolls: Open the cans and reserve the icing. Separate the rolls and gently flatten each one into a thin disc.
- Build the first layer: Arrange half of the flattened cinnamon rolls across the bottom of the baking dish, slightly overlapping them.
- Add the apples: Spread half of the warm apple mixture evenly over the cinnamon rolls.
- Add the creamy layer: Drizzle or spread half of the cream cheese frosting over the apples.
- Repeat: Add another layer of flattened cinnamon rolls, followed by the remaining apples and cream cheese frosting. Finish with the remaining cinnamon roll pieces on top.
- Bake: Cover loosely with foil and bake for 25–30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 10–15 minutes, until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
- Finish: Let the lasagna rest for about 5–10 minutes, then drizzle generously with the reserved cinnamon-roll icing and caramel sauce.
- Serve warm: Sprinkle with chopped pecans or walnuts and serve while warm and gooey.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of salt to the apple filling.
- This dessert is best served warm for maximum gooeyness.
- Feel free to substitute the nuts with your favorite toppings.
