Ingredients

  • 2 cups angel food cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 stick
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the angel food cake mix and water. Stir until well blended and smooth.
  2. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F.
  3. Using a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with the corner snipped off, pipe small circles of the cake batter into the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  4. Remove the churro bites from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a shallow bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and cinnamon. While the churro bites are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until fully coated.
  6. In a separate bowl, melt the butter and mix in the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt to create a glaze. Drizzle over the churro bites before serving.
  7. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
