Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of all-purpose flour with 1 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add approximately ¾ cup of warm water, mixing until the dough starts to come together. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix 1 pound of ground beef, 1 grated onion, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and salt to taste. Optionally add a splash of water to keep the mixture moist.
  3. Divide the rested dough into small walnut-sized pieces. Roll each piece into an 8-inch circle and place a generous line of filling on one half. Fold over and seal tightly.
  4. In a skillet, heat enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by ½ inch. Heat to 350°F.
  5. Fry 2-3 pastries for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve warm, optionally with yogurt and a fresh salad.
