  1. Grease a metal loaf pan with vegetable shortening or non-stick cooking spray and dust with cornmeal.
  2. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Mix flour, salt, pepper, and baking soda in a stand mixer bowl.
