Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather your equipment, including a heavy-bottomed, oven-safe skillet.
- Peel the Japanese sweet potatoes and slice them into roughly 1-inch thick rounds.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the white miso paste and maple syrup until smooth. Gradually add water to achieve a pourable consistency.
- Place your skillet over medium-high heat and add a generous splash of avocado oil. Allow the oil to heat up until it shimmers.
- Carefully add the sweet potato slices to the skillet in a single layer. Sear for 3-4 minutes until golden-brown, then flip and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and add butter to the skillet, swirling to let it melt. Pour the prepared miso glaze over the sweet potatoes.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Baste with pan sauce, then return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until fork-tender.
- Transfer the Miso Glazed Melting Sweet Potatoes to a serving plate. Drizzle any remaining sauce and finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.

Notes
Watch the glaze while baking to prevent burning. Use a heavy skillet for even cooking, and allow the sweet potatoes to rest briefly before serving.
