  • 2 tablespoons Maple Syrup Honey is a viable substitute.
  • 1/4 cup Water Adjust based on your desired consistency.
For Added Richness
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Non-dairy butter works perfectly for a vegan version.
  • 1 teaspoon Flaky Sea Salt Enhances flavors and adds a delightful crunch.

Equipment

  • heavy-bottomed oven-safe skillet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Gather your equipment, including a heavy-bottomed, oven-safe skillet.
  2. Peel the Japanese sweet potatoes and slice them into roughly 1-inch thick rounds.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the white miso paste and maple syrup until smooth. Gradually add water to achieve a pourable consistency.
  4. Place your skillet over medium-high heat and add a generous splash of avocado oil. Allow the oil to heat up until it shimmers.
  5. Carefully add the sweet potato slices to the skillet in a single layer. Sear for 3-4 minutes until golden-brown, then flip and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Turn off the heat and add butter to the skillet, swirling to let it melt. Pour the prepared miso glaze over the sweet potatoes.
  7. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes. Baste with pan sauce, then return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes until fork-tender.
  8. Transfer the Miso Glazed Melting Sweet Potatoes to a serving plate. Drizzle any remaining sauce and finish with a sprinkle of flaky sea salt.

Notes

Watch the glaze while baking to prevent burning. Use a heavy skillet for even cooking, and allow the sweet potatoes to rest briefly before serving.
