Ingredients
  

For the Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce can substitute with homemade
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce all-purpose or low-sodium
  • 1 tablespoon Dark Soy Sauce use less if not available
  • 1 tablespoon Rice Wine Vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar or white sugar if needed
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese Five-Spice optional
For the Beef
  • 500 grams Regular Minced Beef not extra-lean
  • 3 cloves Garlic fresh, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger freshly grated
For Thickening
  • 1 tablespoon Cornflour (Cornstarch) mix with water
For Serving
  • 2 cups Steamed Jasmine Rice or other rice/noodles
  • 1 cup Cucumbers cut into ribbons
  • 2 stalks Spring Onions (Scallions) sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted Sesame Seeds optional
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil optional

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauces, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, and Chinese five-spice. Set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat, then add minced beef. Let it brown undisturbed for 5-6 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Pour sauce over browned beef, stirring to coat. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Mix cornflour with water until smooth, then stir into the beef sauce. Cook for another 30-60 seconds until thickened.
  6. Slice cucumbers into ribbons, toss with salt, and let sit for 5 minutes.
  7. Serve beef over jasmine rice, topped with cucumber ribbons, spring onions, and sesame seeds.
